You can fly into either city, San Pedro Sula or La Ceiba. The best deal on tickets sent us to San Pedro Sula. There is a local bus you can take but with 7 people it $20/person for a three hour van ride.
The road is paved and is two lane. However with all the passing, it turns quickly into a three lane. There are a couple of checkpoints along the road and it is a bit strange to see policemen with automatic weapons.
The slowest vehicle is the horse drawn cart and I was surprised at the number of them we saw.
